# What are the advantages of a staggered wheel setup?
## Staggered setups improve rear traction, cornering stability, and visual stance on RWD performance cars - though limited tire rotation options are an important trade-off.
Staggered setups offer several meaningful advantages for the right car and driver.
**Improved rear traction and grip**
The wider rear tire increases the contact patch with the pavement, delivering more grip during hard acceleration and cornering. For RWD cars, this translates power more effectively to the road and reduces wheelspin out of corners.
**Enhanced handling stability at speed**
More rubber in the rear gives the back of the car a planted, stable feel at higher speeds, reducing the tendency to oversteer. This is a key reason performance manufacturers like BMW M, Porsche, and Chevrolet use staggered fitments from the factory.
